His regular playing position is as a loose forward. He is a key member of 2015 Rugby World Cup winning team, and he also captained the World cup match against Namibia, where All Blacks won the game easily. He plays for the Chiefs in Super Rugby and Bay of Plenty Steamers in the ITM Cup. In 2012 he made his international debut for New Zealand, in the second match of a three match series against Ireland. He made his starting debut in the final match of the series in front of his home crowd in Hamilton, giving a stand out performance that included 16 tackles and two tries.
